Question

Limiting headers converted to bookmarks

Hello!

I create a lot of documents in Word and convert them to pdfs.  When I do, I use the "Convert Headings to Bookmarks" feature, which generally works well.  However, Word insists on tieing the Headings to bulleted list levels.  That gives me the following problem:

1.0 Heading 1

      1.1  Heading 2

             1.1.1  Heading 3

                       1.1.1.1  Grease Pan (heading 4)

                       1.1.1.2  Pour batter (heading 4)

                       1.1.1.3  Bake (heading 4)

Since those steps can be paragraphs, this makes for a lot of bookmarks that aren't really needed.

Is there a way of telling Word to save as a pdf and use Headings 1-3 (in this case) as bookmarks, but not Heading 4-X?  Or, is there an easy way in Adobe Acrobat to say "Remove all bookmarks at level 4 or lower"?  These documents can be really big, so anything that saves me some time is appreciated.  Thanks!
