Linked excel worksheet in indesign document - still needs to be linked when opened as interactive pdf in acrobat

Hi 🙂

I really hope somebody can help med with this problem. I am working on an interactive pdf for a customer. I have several interactive buttons, for text fields and combo boxes, so my customer is able to fill out the pdf with their own text. Where is also a linked excel worksheet in the document, so the customer is able to update their prices for their products. The customer is not supposed to work in the indesign document, only the interactive pdf i acrobat. So how do I make the excel worksheet still linked when the pdf is opened in acrobat, so that when they update their prices, the prices automatically update in the pdf???

Thank you very much in advance for the help.

Best regards

Bettina

You are trying to find a way to collaborate without using the same software. This is the holy grail of collaboration, and is largely as impossible as it has always been. Certainly, you can't link files that are used to generate the PDF files.

That's not possible if you use an Excel file. You would need to use a plain-text file, like a CSV file or a tab-delimited text file, so that a script could read it and import the data from it when the PDF file it is attached to is opened.

Such files can be opened in Excel, of course, but they are not native Excel files.

Hi try67.

Thank you for your answer. How do I avoid my table formatting being wiped everytime the link is updated when using a .txt file or .cvs file? And how do I use or make that script to read and import the data into the pdf everytime it is updated? Without losing the table formatting from Indesign??
