linking pages to an ANGLED table of contents; Trouble with Link boxes

Hello everyone,

I have a slightly angled TOC that I am currently linking pages to in Acrobat. The document was designed in InDesign. The PDF is in full page spreads.

The issue I am having while linking pages to the TOC, the link boxes are getting in the way. Some of the links are angled like the text, others are link boxes level with the document which create a clickable area that is blocking the rest of the text. I have tried editing the link but they do not rotate only resize.

It is strange because sometimes it will work and other times it wont. I have 80% of the document linked the way I need but the rest is creating these link boxes that I cannot use. It's very frustrating. 

Attached are images of what is happening. The "optimization" one is the way I need the clickable area to be angled. The red image is what is happening to my document. Some are angled, others are not and block the rest of the text. 

Any advice?
