linking to hidden pages

I'm trying to make an interactive pdf. I want to link from various links in a schematic to pages that explain about the various parts in the schematic (valves, manifolds, locations, etc). I would like to have these pages hidden to the end user but show up when a link is clicked such as- hidden in the pages thumbnail view, but open when link is clicked on. Is this possible?

Acrobat Pro and Standard:

Templates can be shown and hidden.

Templates can be spawned and deleted.

Acrobat Reader 11 and DC:

Templates can be spawned and deleted.

Unless all users are using Acrobat this is not possible. Only template pages can can be hidden or made visible.

Reader cannot hide spawned pages.

Other PDF viewers may not support templates.

It can be done in Reader (newer versions of it, at least) as it can spawn pages from a (hidden) template and then delete them, as necessary. It would require a complex set of custom-made scripts, though.
