Looking for a way to auto add comment text boxes, based on certain criteria

Hello, I am working on a project running fiberoptic cable for a new service provider. They provide us with PDF maps of the strand route and where all the poles are. We have to add callouts for all the labor codes related to the work we are doing at each location. This new project is the biggest one we've dealt with yet, and there will be hundreds of text boxes all over this map by the time I am done. This is extremely time consuming to do one at a time.

Does anyone know of a way that I can bulk add these comments above or below specific objects on the PDF? I attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to accomplish. These particular text boxes need to be at every location that has a fiber tap. In layman's terms, the fiber taps are represented on the map by a square with a 2 or 4 inside.

I am thinking about hiring a programmer to create an app for this, but I was hoping there might already be a way for me to do this. Any help would be so much appreciated!!

If the markers for these "taps" are textual then it should be possible to fully automate the process using a script.

But it's impossible to say for sure without seeing an actual sample file.

  • Yes, there is a specific text associated with each tap (s100, s101, s102, etc). Would they all have to be the same text to do something like that or does it not matter? There is also the number 2 or 4 inside each square, representing the max number of subscribers that can be connected to that tap. The only issue I see with that, is there are thousands of other 2's and 4's all over the map between all the addresses and some other things. I wish I could share the PDF to use as a sample, but Im pretty sure we would lose our contract as the service provider considers it proprietary information, and is confidential.

The main question is whether these texts are real texts or a part of an image. Can you select them on their own, copy and then paste into another application (like Notepad) and they come out as numbers? If not, then a script won't be able to identify and use them.

A dynamic stamp might work better than text callouts.  You won't be able to fully automate the locations but you can save a lot of time with "keep tool selected" while you're stamping.  I might be able to develop something for you for a fee.  If you're interested please contact my privately by clicking my avatar and then the blue message button.
