Lose of color when converting excel and word documents to PDF

Hello,

I have been using Adobe Pro for years and recently discovered that my excel and word docs are mostly black and white when converted to a PDF. Tables with different colors and highlighting have always been reflected in the PDF format when converting from excel. Likewise, all of a sudden, my word docs are losing most of their colors when converted to a PDF. I have tried various settings to no avail. What changed that this is suddently an issue?
