Question

Mac Big Sur on M1 opens adobe PDF and AI files using Preview.

The icon shows "Preview" for AI and PDF files. I set them to open all using the correct program and it shows they will; however when I double click them, they open using Preview. I've changed the "Opens With" and the "Get Info". I reboot jic, and they still open using Preview unless I right click and choose the correct program, even though it shows they are to open with the correct program. This only happens with PDF and AI files.
I know some might like "Preview" to do this for PDFs, but to me it defeats the purpose of having DC.

Does anyone have the fix? Online only shows the most basic as if we are idiots and don't know how to choose a prefered program to open files with.

    Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described the PDF and AI files open with Mac Preview app when double clicked. Also you have tried setting the default application for PDF files via open with and get info option on Mac but it still doesn't work.

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.01.20048 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

It seem to be some issue in the user profile permission settings, please try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check

    Regards
