Mac: Recognize scanned text greyed out on multiple machines

I have four user machines in my office that are showing (all Macs; M1+ [latest OS]):

All Tools > Edit a PDF > Click settings COG (top right of tool bar) > Recognize scanned text is GREYED OUT >

Multiple machines. Manual scans work...

All Tools > Edit a PDF > Scan & OCR > Recognize Text > WORKS...

Creative cloud, Adobe Acrobat etc - are all 100% up-to-date.

Is this possibly a license issue? It is NOT greyed out on my machine - but I have a different license (Creative Cloud Pro). I don't understand why it is greyed out on the other machines...

Correct answer scarygarynightingale

The option is greved out when the document contains text.

The computers impacted all had standard licenses. The solution was to upgrade to the pro license.

Hi scarygarynightingale,

Thank you for reaching out.

Please confirm if you are opening the scanned or text files in Acrobat. Have you tried opening any other file to see if the option gets enabled?

Could you please share a screenshot of the window where the option is greyed out? Also, please share the machine's Acrobat and OS version numbers.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Confirmed. We are opening the scanned files in Adobe Acrobat.

I have tried files that are not scanned - and the option is still greyed out.

This is happening on multiple machiines... but here are the specs for one of them:

Macbook Pro

Appple M1 Pro

Sequoia 15.6

Acrobat Version: 2025.001.20630
