Making a hyperlink open in Adobe Acrobat instead of web browser?

If a hyperlink to a PDF file is selected, by default it will preview on a web browser. Is there any method to make that same hyperlink open by default in Adobe Acrobat, instead of a web browser?

I have tried to change settings in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome to make this request possible but have not found a solution.

Below is a test hyperlink of what I am working with.

In theory, yes, but the link you provided is not directly to a PDF file but to a representation of such a file in an embedded frame.

As such, it is up to the website to decide how to display it. If the link was to an actual PDF file then you could change the browser's settings to download it instead of open it internally, but this is not the case here.

Are you aware of any work-around in which a hyperlink can open a PDF with Acrobat?

I have created a local path that is synced to Box which does open the file directly. The issue with this method is that it will only work on my local computer, I cannot share that path to anyone else.

No, this is up to the browser. You can't force it to open in a specific application.
