Measurements on PDF delete instantly. As soon as I hit complete measurement it deletes.

I usually measure plans on PDF for areas and length, however recently they delete instantly. Once I hit complete measurement the shape disappears although I can see the value at the bottom until I click away.  This happens with all PDF documents I open. Has anyone experienced this issue before and can it be fixed?

EDIT: I found when I 'Enabled Measurement Markup' in Preferences -> Measuring (2D) my measurements would save again.
