Merging pdfs not working

Please help me merge many pdfs into one document.  I have adobe acrobat dc pro, and am running Windows 10.  I start by dragging 6 documents into the merge document screen, click combine, and each time when I look at the final product it is just the same document repeated over on 6 pages.  I am following the directions very closely.  I haven't found any other community post with this error, what can I do?

I bought it specifically for this purpose for job applications because my employer doesn't accept any other format and won't accept individual documents.
