Miss the previous great design functionality when creating a PDF portfolio in Acrobat DC

When creating a PDF portfolio in Acrobat DC, I lack all the great functionality that Acrobat had before when it came to design the portfolio.

I think at least Acrobat 9 had it with newer versions (https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/building_a_pdf_portfolio).

When opening portfolios that I a few years ago they now seem very "tacky". And so it is for my customers as well.

I have asked their support several times but they just close my queries without actually giving me any answer. They only refer to the present and very simple way of creating portfolios.

I'm really at a loss here. Is there any other program you know of that can be used instead for pdfs within the Adobe Creative Cloud (or by any third party)?

I still posed a comment to that thread since I still need the previous functionality of being able to design the PDF portfolios.
