Question

Moving image in reading order applies it to whole document

I’m working on making a pdf ADA accessible in Acrobat. It wasn’t built by my team, so I don’t have the original file. Looks like the doc was made in Canva.

When I drag image [4] to be at top [1] (shown below)

It applies the image as like a background to that whole page/spread

Anybody know why? are there settings I need to change or do I need to import the pdf in some other way?

    Hi @milo_9927

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for sharing the details and screenshots. I understand that making an inherited PDF accessible without the original file is hard, especially when moving one image changes how the whole page behaves.

To look into why the image is being applied across the whole page, could you please share:

    • The complete Acrobat version (Help > About Adobe Acrobat) and your operating system.

    • Where you are moving the image: the Reading Order tool (Order panel) or the Tags panel.

    • Whether it happens on every page of this PDF or only on specific pages, and with other PDFs too.

    • A short screen recording showing the steps you follow, from selecting the image to dragging it to position 1. Please hide any confidential content in the file before recording.

If you are able to share a sample page with sensitive content removed, that would help as well.

    Regards,
    Amal

OS is Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise

Moving image in Reading Order tool/ Order panel

It only seems to happen with this image in this document, but I’ve seen it happen to other docs too when I’m making them ADA accessible

This could be slightly off topic but I suppose the screen readers depend upon the tag structure to determine the reading order. So if you use that to move your image tag it may help you with your immediate need
