Multiple highlight colors

I want to be able to have the fillable fields be highlighted in different colors within the same form. I am working on a form to send off to multiple departments to complete and need each department to complete certain fields. Can I select certain fields to be highlighted in one color and other fields within the same form to be in another color?

Not with the built-in fields highlighting feature, but you can do it yourself by setting their fill color to the desired value.

I'm fairly new to Adobe. Can you please explain what this means. And how do I do that?

Did you add the form fields to your file? If so, in the Form Edit mode, select some of them and then right-click one and select Properties.

You'll be able to set the fill color of all of the selected fields under the Appearance tab.
