my adobe acrobat pro DC keeps asking me to "activate" and then asks my serial number, but I bought it online and do not have a serial number to enter?

As per the description above, you are getting an activation and enter the serial number in Acrobat Pro DC, Is that correct?

As Bernd Alheit mentioned already in the previous post that the Adobe PDFPack does not include the Acrobat Pro DC, and if you try to use the services of Adobe PDF pack, it will ask you to subscribe or enter a serial key for activation.

If you want to use the services of Adobe PDFPack, then you can install the free desktop version of Adobe Reader and can use the services of Adobe PDFpack. To download the Reader: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution  Link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Sign in with your Adobe ID and password in Reader.

*** Note: Make sure you sign out from Acrobat Pro DC  and uninstall it before installing Reader.
