Hi @mauricio_1620,

Thanks for reaching out, and I understand the frustration. This error is typically related to a missing Output Intent (Outbound Purpose) required by the PDF/A standard to ensure proper color space handling for archival documents.

Here’s how you can resolve this in Adobe Acrobat Pro:

Step 1: Open Preflight Preferences and Set an Outbound Purpose

  1. Open your PDF in Acrobat Pro

  2. Go to Print Production > Preflight

  3. In the Preflight dialog, click the wrench icon (Fixups) tab

  4. At the bottom right, click the Options (hamburger) menu > Preferences

  5. Under Color Management, make sure:

    • A valid Output Intent Profile is selected (e.g., sRGB IEC61966-2.1 or Adobe RGB 1998)

    • You may need to add or re-import a missing ICC profile if it’s not listed

Step 2: Re-run PDF/A Conversion

  1. Back in Preflight, switch to the Profiles tab

  2. Use the appropriate PDF/A profile (e.g., Convert to PDF/A-1b)

  3. Click Analyze and Fix

Acrobat will now include the required Output Intent and should complete the conversion without the “No definite exit purpose” error.

If You Don’t See Output Intents or Profiles:

  • On Windows, reinstalling Acrobat doesn’t always restore deleted profiles — you may need to manually reinstall color profiles in Windows Color Management

Let us know:

  • What Acrobat version are you using

  • Your OS version

  • If the problem affects all PDFs or just specific files

We’ll be glad to help further if needed!

Hello @mauricio_1620!

I hope you are doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20531 (Win), planned update June 10, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

If the issue still continues, please collect the logs from the affected machine and share them with us for further investigation. Download and run the Log Collector tool. Make sure to select all log options and attempt to reproduce the issue. After that, close the Log Collector tool; it will generate the logs along with a log ID. Please share this log ID with us.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
