Question

Need to get back previous version of Acrobat Reader DC. I do NOT like it! Can't use it!

Hi,  I am looking everywhere to find my serial number. I was recently hijacked by Acrobat Reader DC. I can't tell you frustrating this is for me! I am a quadriplegic,  paralyzed from the neck down. I use a Tobii Dynavox which allows me to control my computer with my eyes to manage my day-to-day activities which involves a small home based businessI use Acrobat Reader regularly for filling in text as well as converting PDF to Microsoft Word documents. Currently I was using it tofill out my W2 W3 forms. On my documents where I needed to fill I was able to choose the font and color of the font, and position them where I wanted them go. Acrobat Reader DC is much more tedious and laborious for me. All of my files were hijacked into a format that is vastly different. I've spent the better part of the last 2 days trying to get back the Acrobat Reader I had, and I'm not even sure what version it was. I just always updated when I was alerted. After all of my searching I understand I need a serial number to download a previous version. Could you help me find my serial number please? Needless to say, my eyes are tired.

Really, nothing has changed on form filling in Reader DC. If it's a form you can type in it. Is it possible that you're using a DIFFERENT form? By the way, the last reply before mine told you exactly how to get Reader XI.

"After reading your answer I'm thinking that the serial number requirement referred to the full purchased program not the free Reader." That's correct. "Did I check the box asking if I wanted the older version removed when updating?" Installing the new version removes the old, it isn't a choice.

I assume you were filling forms. This should be almost exactly the same in Acrobat Reader DC. Just click into and type in the fields. The menus and buttons are all different certainly, but what is going wrong with form filling for you?

Okay, here we go again. Another hour to type a short email with my eyes.

Seriously, "what is going wrong with form filling for you?" I wish I

knew!! The new reader DC doesn't have preset fields to type into. When it

does let me add text, it is not typing in a field it types over the

document's letters. Look I can't keep doing this. Can you just tell me is

there a way that I could get Acrobat Reader 10 or 11?

Thanks.

Acrobat Reader doesn’t have a serial number and never did. There are two different products, it’s confusing. Acrobat Reader used to be called Adobe Reader. It was free always. there is also paid for software called Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Standard, or just Acrobat.

There is is no forced update (but very much recommended because old versions are no longer protected against malware attacks).

it Does sound as if you used to have a paid for Acrobat but I can’t be sure. If it was paid for, you will need your serial number.

Thank you for your quick response! It was helpful, but didn't help me solve my devastating situation. No hyperbole here. I'm was using the free version I've always had and updated since first using it as a pre-installed program on many PCs right out of the box to add text to a W-3 and W-2 form that must be in the mail by the 31st. That's this week! I was completing them and needed to make changes when Reader updated to DC and changed everything. What I had already was still there, but any editing or adding to, didn't mesh.

So after hours (two days of them) of looking for answers, I found on Adobe's website that in order to reinstall any older version one would need a serial number. After reading your answer I'm thinking that the serial number requirement referred to the full purchased program not the free Reader. I do pay for the service of converting pdf to a Word doc., but went to that order detail in my account and there was no serial number.

So, yeah, helpful, but I still need the version I had before DC was put on. Did I check the box asking if I wanted the older version removed when updating? I don't know! It's very possible, "update" In my mind doesn't involve such a drastic change in format and function. Every update in the past was minimal in changes and subsequent learning curve. I can't use a mouse or my fingers, and managing a computer with my eyes is challenging with all the various interfaces. I try to avoid any extra steps.

So,... can anyone help me? I'm not opposed to using an unprotected version, at least until I see if can use the DC version. But for the immediate, and I mean like yesterday, I need the free version of Acrobat Reader before the drastic changes of DC. I have partial projects on deadlines.

The information you found was wrong, or you didn't read it correctly. Reader does not, and did not, require a serial number, as it's a free application.

You can get a pre-DC version of Adobe Reader here (ignore the page title): Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions

As your OS select Windows XP and then you'll get a direct link to the Reader XI installer.

Notice that there are "optional offers" for additional software, which are enabled by default.
