New 64 bit version of Acrobat reader opens file open dialog upon double clicking file in Windows 10

A couple days ago, the new 64 bit version of Acrobat reader was installed on my Windows 10 PC.

Now, when I'm double clicking a file in Windows 10 explorer, a "file open" dialog is opened by the browser, instead of Acrobat reader opening and displaying the file.

Looks like the browser based version of the reader is taking over, instead of the stand-alone version.

When I use "Open with ..." and then select Acrobat reader, things works as expected.

Acrobat reader is configured as the standard application for .pdf files.

How do I need to tell Acrobat reader that it should proceed directly, not passing the job to the browser based version? (and, even if passing on, please pass the file along ...!)

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, a "file open" dialog is opened by the browser, instead of Acrobat reader opening and displaying the file.

Please make the Adobe Acrobat Reader as the default PDF handler on your system as described here - https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/not-default-pdf-owner-windows10.html

Also try repairing the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and reboot the computer once and check.

Please check for any missing/pending updates for Windows OS and try updating it and reboot the computer once.

PLease try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here - https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/m-p/4792082

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Windows and try using the application there and check.

Regards
