No insert space mark or insert paragraph mark after caret when commenting

Question

When I use the insert text commenting on Adobe Acrobat, sometimes I need to say to insert a space or insert a paragraph break. All of the documentation says that if I insert a space I should get a ^_ symbol. And if I insert a paragraph, I should get a ^ paragraph mark.

That doesn't happen for me. All I get is a ^. This is confusing for the other users since the comment attached only has a space in it, and it isn't obvious what I want. And there's no way to be clear about the insert paragraph. Here's a picture of what I get:

I've looked on all the adobe help sites and there's nothing to say why my installation is behaving this way. I've checked for updates, and it is updated. I've tried reverting to old acrobat. That doesn't help. I went back to new acrobat, that didn't help. So anyone have any idea what gives here?

Thanks for raising this. We understand how frustrating it can be when insert suggestions like spaces or paragraph breaks aren’t displayed clearly in comments.

What you’re describing appears to be a limitation (or possible regression) in how Acrobat currently renders non-visible characters — such as a space or paragraph return — in the “Insert Text at Cursor” comment type.

I will discuss this behavior internally with the product team.

In the meantime:

You can manually type “[space]” or “[line break]” into the comment box to clarify your intent.

Let us know your version of Acrobat and OS — we’ll pass that along to the product team.
