No option to recognize text when using find function

I have accidentally selected to not be asked if I want to recognize text when using the find function. How can I turn this back on so that I don't have to convert scanned pages to searchable images before using the find function?

Correct answer Bernd Alheit

In the preferences of Adobe Acrobat click on "Reset All Warnings".

Hello Jdgordon,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. To turn on automatic OCR:

  • In the right pane, select the Recognize text check box. From next time, Acrobat will automatically run OCR and convert a scanned document to editable text.

For detailed information, you can refer to Edit scanned PDFs, turn off automatic OCR, Adobe Acrobat

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

I have had the exact same problem, but this suggested solution does not work.  So the answer is NOT CORRECT.

The solution certainly helps in other contexts -- such as whenever I enter "Edit PDF" mode -- but I instinctively just select "Find", and it doesn't recognize the text when I do that ... so if I'm working too fast, I don't realize that this PDF wasn't OCR'd.

HOW CAN I TURN IT BACK ON SO THAT IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY REMIND ME WHEN I HIT FIND ... LIKE IT USED TO?
