Notes about updating Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 win (stand-alone, single user license)
this post may help you IF you have an Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 win, STAND-ALONE (single user / two device license).
1. acrobat didn't update on one device (i tolerated a "Error 1328"). i read that i needed to uninstall / reinstall acrobat. i finally bit the bullet yesterday.
am happy to report: these instructions, Solution 2, actually worked: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1328-applying-patch-to-file.html
*** ABOUT SAVING PREFERENCES: see below.
2. i had a LOT of updating to do (in acrobat, Help / Check for Updates...). each update took me closer to the current update version (17.011.30188). first update updated to 17.011.30127, then 17.011.30156, then 17.011.30188.
my point: keeping going through the updating process (Help / Check for Updates...) till you've got the current version.
3. i'm 'front-end' nerdy. backend is where the smart people work -- i peer back there from time to time.
my point: i was so NOT sure what the hell i was reading here under Release Notes / which is the most current update version for MY license ( https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html )
answer: look under the heading, "2017 Classic Track." yup, 'da.'
*** ABOUT SAVING PREFERENCES / buttons on Quick Tools..., your signature cert: somehow my customized Quick Tools buttons restored when I opened several exisiting docs (must be document specific or something) and i had to get clever to restore my signature cert.
i didn't know where my .pfx was located (.pfx appears to be the sig' cert file). so i created a "new Digital ID", used same name, email address and password and the process showed me the path where the cert will be saved. i copied that path, then clicked Back a few times until i got to the initial dialog box (u have 3 choices as to how to create ur sig' cert), then selected "Use a digital ID from File." in the subsequent dialog box i pasted the path into the first field, and entered my password and...restorted my old signature.
i'll never remember any of this but hopefully someone searching this board will benefit from all, or part, of this.
