Older .pdf on Mac generates "file is damaged" message, yet file opens fine on another Mac.

I use Mac OS 15 and Acrobat 2024. I can't open older (2-3 years) .pdf files, instead getting a message that my file is damaged. Yet the same Drop Box file opens fine in my MacBook Pro (M1). Help!
