Question

open pdf within pdf from a server

I open a pdf document that contains an attached pdf from a server. When double click to open the attached pdf, I get notthing.  Yet When I try the same thing using my server Administrator id from the same pc using the same process, it opens the attached pdf.  The user needs access to able to open the the attahced pdf, but is not able to acces it. The user has read security acess.  Both users are part of admin.dot.net. But the server is at a higher lever at dot.net.

Thanks Randy, it did not work. My opion is that it is a Microsoft Security issue. Searched on the internet but nothing that can allow a common Adobe user without being Administratror or probably giveing ful security access. We don’t want to give full access as they would be able to delted archived material. This kind of happens with our emails where we sometimes cannot open a link in the email.

I understand. And I absolutely understand your position on the matter.

Wages of war, and all that. Security sometimes keeps what you want to let in on the outside too. We took a shot at this one.

Are you using Adobe Acrobat server products to maintain document security and track distribution?

If everything is running on desktop Adobe Acrobat products, such issues would be rather rare and unusual. What opens on one system should open just as easily on another one. But your post indicates you may be working with specialized Acrobat software for maintaining document security, as well as perhaps other software that provides those services.

You may be best served by finding out who supports your organization’s Acrobat services with Adobe and directing your questions to them. As a general rule, those products are far past our experience as desktop Acrobat users who volunteer here. Maybe past the rare occasions when Acrobat product managers here offer support as well. We volunteers don’t get paid here. Nonetheless, to use the vernacular, those situations are far above our pay grade.

    Hope this helps,

Randy, thanks for you input.  We are subsscribed to Adobe Acrobat but I don’t think we use the server. I just  trying to reachout and see if anyone had the same problem or solution. Seems to be a secuirty problem since if your listed as an adminstrator you can open the ddf within the pdf.

    OK.

Does your errant user there have the ability to run Acrobat on their desktop as an administrator? Or is that privilege assigned further up the food (server) chain with other administrative privileges?

You might want to try this:

First, close Acrobat. Then, navigate your way to the application within the root/Applications/Adobe folder, find the Adobe Acrobat icon and right-click on it. Select the Run as Administrator command in the flyaway menu, if you can. That’s not the same as assigning administrative rights on your network, but it does give your user greater Acrobat-centric powers. It’s worth trying that to see if you get better results.

I can say, in general terms, that if you’re running desktop installs of Adobe Acrobat Pro with no server-enhancing products, it would be a very atypical situation. Unless, of course, there are other network security tools affecting that.
