Opening Adobe Acrobat

Hello, am new to Adobe Acrobat, and everytime I open Adobe, it opens at the home screen and then locks up and the curser goes unresponsive, whereupon I am forced to restart my computer.  

In another context, when I download and then attempt to open a pdf with Adobe Acrobat, the fillable fields that were filled-in before downloading appear blank when then opening with Adobe Acrobat (in particular, government forms).  The fillable fields will appear filled-in when opened with Chrome.
