Question

Opening PDFs with Acrobat xi

My employer just updated to Acrobat Pro XI and now opening a file from a folder in WIndows causes the file to open in Internet Explorer. Didnt used to do that.

The only way to open a PDF without going to Internet Explorer is to open it from within Acrobat. This is not acceptable at all. Why did they change it?

You should inform your boss the version they updated to is outdated and not supported by Adobe any longer. It's also not compatible with the latest operating systems, so problems are to be expected.

Hi Lars Skipole

We are sorry for the trouble. As described, the PDF files are opening with IE

Make sure you have set the Adobe Acrobat XI as the default PDF viewer.

1. Right-click the thumbnail of a PDF file, and then choose Properties.

2. In the file's Properties dialog box, click Change.

3. Select Adobe Acrobat XI and click OK

You may also refer to the steps provided in the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html

Moreover Adobe Acobat XI is an old and EOL application. For more information please take a look at the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/kb/end-of-support-acrobat-xi-reader-xi.html

Regards

Amal
