Opening with no rich media buttons

Hi all,

I am having trouble with rich media buttons sticking after saving and reopening in desktop app.

if I open online, all buttons are there no issues. But when opening the same file on the desktop app the buttons disappear and when shutting document down, it asks me to save the document even though I have made no changes. (It made changes by opening without my button).

Anyone have the fix for this?

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

It sounds like you're running into an issue where rich media buttons disappear in the desktop app, and the file asks to be saved even if you didn’t make any changes. This usually happens when the desktop version of Acrobat sometimes handles rich media or interactive elements (like buttons with JavaScript) differently than the web version.

Here are a few things you can try:

1. Check for Updates: Make sure you’re using the latest version of Acrobat. Go to Help > Check for updates in the desktop app.

2. Enable Go to Edit > Preferences > JavaScript and ensure that JavaScript is enabled. Some rich media buttons rely on JS to function properly.

3. Trust Settings: Try adding the document location to your trusted locations in Preferences > Security (Enhanced). Acrobat sometimes disables media or scripts in untrusted files.

4. Protected Mode: Temporarily try disabling Protected Mode under Preferences > Security (Enhanced) to see if it resolves the issue (Note: please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risks).

5. Recreate Buttons Using Acrobat Tools: If the issue persists, recreating the buttons directly in Acrobat rather than embedding them via another tool might help improve compatibility. To know more, please check the help page https://adobe.ly/419PHi6

If the buttons are still missing after trying these steps, please share more details like how the buttons were created and which version of Acrobat you’re using (Go to Help > About Acrobat)

Let us know how it goes.
