Others are able to copy data from my password protected PDF

Hi, I have a file that I want people to read on my web site but I do not want them to be able to copy parts of it (or all of it) and print it (isn;t it the whole point in pass protection?) I find out that they very easily by pass Acrobat protection and use a simple editing program and are able to copy and save my material. Is this the best protection I can expect?

Hi,

If you are sure that your users (as it is a website I would assume not) are using Adobe Software to view the PDF then you can be sure that the security is applied and adhered to, although note: password protecting does not mean not allowing printing or copying, they are specific things you would need to specify.

But even if you have specified extra settings,  as PDF is a open standard and anyone can write software to view them, the programmers of that software can adhere to or not any security you have placed on the file.

You can make sure you have encrypt all document contents, this makes it harder to open in a non-pdf viewer and grab the text, but as mentioned above it still doen't make it impossible.

Thanks!
I believe it is encrypted. It still begs the question - if this is
against copying my material - how could it work only with nice people? The
whole point is to protect me from people that do not play by the rules...

If you just want people to read and not interact with a PDF why are you publishing a PDF online to begin with?

Nothing that is shared online is 100 % secure nor private, nor anonymous.

NO SOFTWARE CAN PERSONALLY PROTECT YOU FROM BAD PEOPLE OR NON-LAW ABIDING NETIZENS.

I'd suggest that you wake you up and hurry, else (and mark my words) if you continue to bring that mentality to the Web you're gonna find yourself in a world of pain, frustration, feeling deceived, let down, and betrayed by your favorite software makers
