"Out of suffix" Error Appearing when Opening Any PDF

Hello everyone,

I've recently developed an issue where upon attempting to open any PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC I receive a simple error that reads: "Out of suffix" and only has an OK button to acknowledge its presence to get it to go away. It pops up as soon as the PDF is attempting to open, and does nothing until the OK box is clicked. Once that box is clicked, it goes away...only to happen again immediately. Same error, same method of acknowledgement, repeats immediately. Clicking OK on the second error box makes it dissappear and the PDF then opens normally. Can't seem to find a similar issue that has been brought up before anywhere online, and hoping someone can help me get it resolved.

Pictures of the error and of the System Parameters and Installed Plug-ins are included here.

Thanks!

Austin

Does this happen with all PDF files?

I would disable all 3rd party plugins (in case you have any) by going into Acrobat's preferences, then go to the "General" category and check "Use only certified plug-ins" (this should be the last item in the list). Restart Acrobat and see if it still happens. If it no longer happens, then it's one of the 3rd party plug-ins you have installed, and it's a matter of figuring out which one, and then complain to the vendor. If it still happens, then I would re-install Acrobat, by using the Acrobat Cleaner: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Karl,

You nailed it with your answer!

The solution was to click into Acrobat --> Edit --> Preferences --> General --> Checking the box next to "Use only certified plug-ins" and restarting Acrobat.

I will potentially dig into which specific plug-in caused the issue and post my answer to that specific problem in this same thread, in case anyone happens to have the same issue in the future.

Thanks for the help!

The error message is nothing I've ever seen in Acrobat, and the concept of being out of suffixes also does not fit within Acrobat, so there was a pretty good chance that it had to be a 3rd party plug-in. Now it's just a matter of disabling one at a time, and then getting in touch with the plug-in vendor to see what you can do about it. Good luck.
