Page size discrepancy between laptop and monitor viewing

I noticed another issue from the latest Acrobat update, where my page size seems to auto-adjust or change based on whether I’m viewing the file on my laptop screen or my monitor.

For instance, when viewing on my laptop, this page seems to be >10.5” wide:

When I shift that same file over to my monitor, it shifts to the anticipated 8.5” wide:

I’m also getting these fun white tick marks all along the ruler that appear where ever I scroll my mouse, making it impossible to read the ruler, and I no longer have a scroll bar. So great.

Adobe, please fix all these issues with the latest update!!

    Hi jonnaalley,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

The issue with the rulers making lines when moving the cursor has already been reported, and a bug has been logged for further investigation. We will update you once the issue is resolved.

Regarding the page size discrepancy, could you please confirm if you have noticed this behavior recently? Have you checked the actual page size changes? Please confirm the page size using the steps outlined below on both screens:

    1. Open the PDF in Acrobat.

    2. Navigate to All Tools › Use Print Production › Set Page Boxes.

    3. Check the Media Box / Trim Box size.

    Alternatively:

    1. Go to Menu > Document Properties > Description.

    2. Check the page size.

Please note that Acrobat dynamically scales the view based on screen resolution, DPI (display scaling), and the active Page Display/Zoom mode. This could explain the difference you're seeing.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

Hello, and thanks for your response!

I am still noticing this behavior, and it must be related to the resolution of the displays, but I can’t figure out a setting to resolve it..

To clarify, I primarily work with 8.5” x 11” page sizes, always on a laptop, and most of the time with a connected monitor to extend the display. Sometimes, when I’m looking at a document on my laptop it’ll appear as .8.5x11 according to the Acrobat ruler, but then when I move the same document over to my monitor, it’ll appear to increase to a page size that’s closer to 10.5”x16” or similar (don’t quote me on that size--I’m not on my monitor right now). The change takes place when moving a document from viewing on the laptop versus the monitor.

What’s strange is that it’s not all documents that do this, and some documents may reflect the larger page size on my laptop and the smaller and correct page size on my monitor, so I can’t rely on the assumption that what I see on my monitor is likely inaccurate since the issue is inconsistent and not equally “applied” to all documents.

Like you mentioned, this seems to be related to the monitor resolution or my view settings, so if you have any tips on adjusting those settings to make the rulers consistent between both laptop and monitor, that would be amazing!

    Hi jonnaalley,

    Thank you for the information.

As mentioned, the issue does not occur on all the documents. In that case, could you please share some sample PDFs that reproduce the issue? Also, share the following details:

    • Make and model for both the laptop and monitor.
    • Acrobat version number
    • ‘OS version
    • It would be really helpful if you could share a short video showing the changes you see.

We will try to replicate this and see what might be causing this behaviour.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

Does it show correctly if you turn the rules off and on again? Might be having trouble with monitors that have a different size?

Unfortunately, yes. I’m almost certain it’s related to my monitor or resolution viewing settings, but can’t figure out which may need to be adjusted to help this issue. I appreciate the tip, though! It’s always something :)
