Password protection and printing problems

I have been sent a confidental PDF that has been password protected.  I have the relevant password, and can open/view the document on my iPad. However, when I try and eprint same to my HP envy 5540 (wireless) printer, it requests that I enter another password. Specifically, the message I see is, "...Without the proper password you do not have permission to print this document. Enter the password to unlock printing".

The person who sent me the document is adamant that printing is not password protected, and that there is no restriction on printing. He's also saying it is a 'local IT issue' (which means me), and is beyond their scope of support.

Anytime I attempt to print other documents, be they from Ticketmaster, or Word documents, web pages, Photos, etc., I don't encounter the password request issue, so I am assuming the problem isn't with my iPad or HP Envy. Can anybody throw some light on this matter? I'm using Acrobat Reader for iOS. I assume its the latest version, as I only downloaded it yesterday.

    Can we assume that when you say “it requests that I enter another password” the it that you refer to is the printer? If that's the case, does the printer provide a means for you to enter the password and if so, what happens if you enter that same “relevant password” at that time at the printer?

    iOS sends files to printers either as PDF itself or as a raster image. If your printer does support direct PDF, it needs to open the PDF file in same you open the PDF file with Adobe Reader for iOS even if the file is not restricted against printing.

    Let us know the answer to the initial question and whether using that password gets you past the problem.

    I have the same situation as the original poster. I received a password protected file via email. I can open and see the file on my iPad, but I cannot print it from my iPad. The iPad requests another password and supplying that same password does not allow printing. However, I can successfully print that same document from my Mac laptop. The laptop asks for the password before opening the document and then I can print withou another password request.
