Question

PDF created using Adobe Paper Capture Plug-in is searchable text. Why?

I have a PDF whose properties say it was produced by "Adobe Acrobat 9.3 Paper Capture Plug-in".  (The PDF version is "1.7, Adobe Extension Level 8 (Acrobat X)".  As I understand it, the paper capture plug-in generates a bit-map which can't be searched (quote from the plug-in help: "The resulting file is a PDF Image Only file—that is, a bitmap picture of the pages that can be viewed in Acrobat but not searched."

However, I am able to extract text from this PDF without using OCR.  So what is going on?

Hi Bernd.  Thanks for your post.  I think I misunderstood what the plug-in does!  Andy

Hi @andy_9847

Thanks for reaching out with your question.

Are you a developer? Have you created the file? Let us know which application you used to open the PDF file so you can copy the text.

If you are a developer, you may contact the Developer Support program: https://adobe.ly/4hboAse

If your purpose is to secure the PDF, you can use Acrobat to restrict PDF: https://adobe.ly/4iqFELN;

Hi Tariq.  I'm sorry but I don't see how your questions relate to my post.  Could you please explain what you are getting at?  Thanks, Andy

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
