PDF Fillable Form

I created a fillable pdf for supervisees to complete after meetings for us both to sign. Everything worked properly on the forms until April 2025. Starting in April, the font inside of the text boxes appears extremely small and is all combined on a single line instead of the font size that is readable on multiple lines when saved. I created a new form to see if this would correct the problem, but we are having the same issue with the new form. I am not sure what to do!

I've attached a pdf displaying the way text appeared prior to April 2025 and how text now appears.

Hi @laura_4561,

Thanks for the question — what you’re describing is a common issue, and it usually comes down to how the PDF is being opened by the recipients. Also, the attachment hasn't come through.

Most Likely Cause: Non-Adobe PDF Viewers

Fillable forms created in Acrobat rely on standard PDF form field technology, but many third-party apps and browsers (like Preview on macOS, Chrome’s built-in viewer, or mobile PDF viewers) don’t support form fields properly.

As a result:

  • Users may see a static version of the form

  • Fields may appear blank or locked

  • Text may not be savable or visible after typing

What we can try:

1. Ask recipients to open the form in:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (free)

  • Or Adobe Acrobat Pro

2. Include a note when sharing the form:

“Please open this PDF using Adobe Acrobat Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro for full functionality. Browsers or other PDF apps may not support fillable form fields.”

3. Check the file type:

  • If you created a form using LiveCycle Designer (XFA form), it’s even more likely to break in non-Adobe apps. Let us know if that’s the case.

Tip:

To verify this yourself, try opening the form in a browser instead of Adobe Acrobat—you’ll likely see the difference right away.
Feel free to reach out if you have questions, and wait for more input from experts.

Thank you for your quick response. I have verified that the three people
that use the form are opening it with Adobe Acrobat Reader. It looks
correct as they are filling out the form but changes once it has been
signed by me and sent for them to sign.

I created the form in Word and saved it as a PDF. Then, I opened it with
Adobe Acrobat Form and made it into a fillable form.

I am not great with technology, so there may be a better way to do this.

I have attached the pdf that didn't upload with my post.

Thank you again for your help!!

Hi laura_4561c,

Thank you for the information.

The PDF is not attached to the message. Try attaching the PDF directly from the community page instead of the email response.

Please share the screen recording of how you add the from field in the PDF.

How are you sending the document for signature? Are you using the Request e-signature features in Acrobat or sending it as an attachment via email?

Thanks,

Meenakshi
