PDF forms - fillable/interactive but also printable

Question

I am trying to draft a PDF form for use by staff that they can either enter their information online, or print it and handwrite (as this is preferred by a lot of staff). I have put in expanding text boxes in the online version, but is there a way to set the print version to automatically have larger text boxes to complete? Eg the online version has smaller text boxes (this looks 'neater') but they can be expanded, but the printable version has text boxes may 3x the size?

You can create multiple layers in the file, with different designs, and set some to be visible on screen and others to be visible when printed. You can also set the fields to be only visible on screen. But I think doing so will confuse the user quite a bit. It's better to just create a separate version of the file for printing purposes, with no fillable fields at all, I think.
