PDF page prints blank or fails with watermark ... prints fine without

Question

I have an Excel spreadsheet that prints into a pdf fine and when combined with others will print blank or fail when a watermark is applied.  I tried printing from Excel to pdf, applying the watermark and printing before combining and it still prints blank or fails.  PDF is flattened, optimized, etc. and will not print with a watermark.  All other pages in the PDF print fine with the same watermark and they were also created with Excel, Word, AutoCAD, etc.  Any ideas?

P.S.  This spreadsheet has some conditional formatting with assigned colors, etc.  The others do not.  Looking for any options that may make it print to pdf that will print with a watermark.  Maybe this will help generate an idea...
