PDF Preflight: Fix Problems in Tagging Structure

Acrobat DC, Windows:  I just ran the PDF Fixup Fix Problems in PDF Tagging structure and it deleted all the Content in my document !

This Profile is made up of  the 12 PDF Fixups listed below. I tested this on a fresh copy of the same file, and ran each one individuallly.  No Problem. But when I run the Profile Fixup -- again it deleted all the Content.

Anyone ever try this and/or know why this is behaving this way?

  1. Correct language for list labels   Fixes a bug in ID CS 5.5 and 6 where list labels are always set to English.
  2. Create bookmarks from heading (if PDF is tagged)
  3. Create Content entry of Link annotations
  4. Make all non-structure elements as artifact (anything not tagged is marked as artifact)
  5. Mark headers and footers as pagination artifact
  6. Merge adjacent headings, if heading levels is the same
  7. Remove empty group and block level elements (eliminates empty paragraphs and headings in tagging structure)
  8. Set document language in tagging structure to the same value present in the tagging structure
  9. Set labels in unordered lists to generic bullet character -- Sets actual text for labels in unordered lists to generic bullet character *. Does not modify appearance of page content.
  10. Set PDF/UA-1 entry
  11. Set tab order to “Use document structure”
  12. Show document title in document window

If you say "deleted all the content" – does that mean there is no visible content rendered anymore on the pages, or there is no content anymore in the structure tree (or in the presentation provided by some assistive technology, like for example a screen reader)?

Does this happen on just one specific document, or several documents/any document?

Can you share a before/after example?

Hello,

To be exact, the Fixup deleted all Tagged Content and left the Artifacts.

Unfortunately, I am not able to share this document with you as it is

confidential.

Perhaps there is something odd about the document, but this is not apparent

from any other tests I ran. Commonlook PDF Validator opened and processed

it properly and it passed PAC 3.0 without a problem. It reads accurately

in Jaws and the Reading Order Panel matches the Tags Panel, as this is one

of the steps we take to ensure reflow is accurate.

I ran each of the Fixups in this profile individually without a problem.

Quite puzzling.

Thanks for your input.
