PDF uneditable

I was working on a PDF document in editable format, I then went to tools and extracted some pages from the PDF document and saved them to a separate file. When I tried to go back to the original document it would not open again in an editable format. The message said that it could only be edited in Livecycle....what is the solution. I just want to get my document back in an editable format.
