PDFs from Acrobat XI become corrupt after encryption

Question

We have pdf files in Acrobat 11.0.09 that seemingly become corrupt after securing with a password. After encrypting and saving the file, when opening it, a message appears saying "there was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Any assistance here would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem with Adobe Acrobat Pro X. the problem just started a few days ago.

the weird thing is: I can open the encrypted file in Chrome; I can open it with Nuance's PDF Converter, but I canNOT open it in Acrobat, which did the encrypting! Help!

PS I made sure I updated the program, just in case...I was going to uninstall and then reinstall until I saw your post.
