Permissions Password vs Document Password

I am trying to change the password on one of my pdf's in acrobat. The pdf is password protected and I have the correct password and I am able to view the document, but when I go to change any of the document's security settings, it asks me for a permissions password. I type in the document password and it says it is incorrect. What is going on here?

Hi tbgc75,

Thank you for reaching out.

Adding to the Bernd Alheit suggestion.

It seems that you have only the password to view the document. The sender of the document might have added another password for permission to make changes to the PDF. Please check with the PDF creator once.

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

@tbgc75 maybe you have an extra space? If you created the document, then just create a new PDF.
