Platform: iPadOS / iOS App: Adobe Acrobat Reader Request: Full support for interactive PDF form calculations on iPad/iPhone

I would like to make interactive PDF documents as user-friendly and reliable as possible for everyone involved in the workflow.

I create interactive PDF forms in InDesign and Acrobat Pro with input fields and automatic calculations. These forms work well on desktop, but the calculation functionality is limited or inconsistent on iPad and iPhone.

Full support for automatic form calculations on iPadOS/iOS would make these documents much easier to use in daily procedures, especially when multiple users rely on tablets or mobile devices instead of desktop computers.

      Hi Amal,

      Thank you very much for your reply.

      My calculations are using the simple built-in field properties in Acrobat, not custom JavaScript. I am using the standard Sum function to add values from several form fields and display the result in a separate total field.

      The calculations are simple arithmetic between fields only — no conditional logic or custom scripting.

      On desktop, the PDF works exactly as intended. On mobile/iPad, however, the calculated total does not update reliably.

      The goal is to use the PDF as a simple refill/inventory form, where users enter quantities in several fields and a Sum-up page automatically shows the total.

      I really like this solution because it is very tangible, easy to understand, and can be built without any coding. That makes it much more accessible for users and for people creating practical workflows without a technical background. I therefore hope this is an area Adobe may continue to develop on mobile devices in the future.

      If there is any recommended setup or limitation I should be aware of for the built-in Sum calculation on iPadOS/iOS, I would be very interested to know.

      I will also submit the feature request through the product feedback link you provided.

        The general pattern with mobile is that simple built-in calculations (Sum, Product, Average) are more likely to work reliably than custom JavaScript, but even these can be inconsistent depending on how and when the recalculation is triggered. There isn't a documented, guaranteed setup on iPadOS/iOS beyond keeping the calculation order correct and avoiding custom scripts, so this remains a genuine mobile limitation rather than something with a full fix today.

        Appreciate you submitting the feature request, that's the right way to get this prioritized for future development.

          Hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out and for raising this. This is a product limitation on mobile apps rather than a bug.

          A couple of things would help me tell you whether anything can be done in the short term:

          • Are your form's calculations using the simple built-in field properties (Sum, Product, Average, etc., set without writing custom script), or custom JavaScript entered in the field's Calculate tab?

          • And roughly what are the calculations doing (arithmetic between fields, conditional logic, something else)? If it's the simple built-in type, there's a decent chance it may work; if it's custom script, there currently isn't a way around the mobile limitation.
