Question

powerpoints from web no longer open in powerpoint - only open as pdf

I just recently installed creative cloud.  I am sure I gave permission to change a setting somewhere, but I have no clue what it was.  When I search for powerpoints online, I used to be able to click the link and it would actually open in powerpoint.  Now all powerpoints from a google search will only open as a pdf in a new tab.  Also, I am now noticing a pdf "square" after certain urls that I've never noticed before in searches.

I want to be able to open powerpoints in powerpoint for the ease of using bits and pieces as examples for fellow teachers and students.

I'm guessing those are actual PDF files, not PowerPoint files. That's why you see that box and why it's opening in your browser. But as mentioned, this has nothing to do with Adobe, as you didn't even mention one Adobe product you're using...

You should be using Adobe Reader to open the PDF files, though, not your browser.

Hi,

I just don't see how any of this has anything to do with Adobe Acrobat.

You posted a question about a Microsoft Office product in Adobe Acrobat support forum.

Also, the problem that you're experiencing involves a web browser.

Most web browsers nowadays provide limited viewing and handling  of PDFs , but still that doesn't mean this is related to Adobe Acrobat.

The word "PDF" inside of a square is simply a visual representation to aid Internet surfers to differentiate that the link that came up in the search results is pointing to a PDF document  direct download site, not a website per se.

So you may want to configure your web browser settings do download PDFs instead of opening directly in the web browser every time you click on one of those links.

If after you download the PDF to your computer, and you need to convert this PDF to Microsoft PowerPoint file, then you need a paid subscription of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC which has the capability to export  PDF to MS Office documents, such as Power Point.

Students and Teachers qualify  for discounts.

If you don't have Acrobat Pro DC and you're interested, see here:
