Preference for not showing comment box on page?

When commenting on PDFs I work with the Comments pane. In my current version of Acrobat on Mac (2021.007.20099), certain commenting operations, like inserting text, produce a comment box on the text. After I hit option-enter to enter the comment, the box remains there. The escape key does not make it go away. I have to either click the box's "x" to remove it, or click on the page. This gets tiring after, oh, two or three hundred times, especially for those of us who prefer all keyboard interactions. I cannot figure out if there is a preference to change this behavior.
