Question

Preserving linked annotations across PDF exports/versions

When creating annotations linked to specific text within a PDF file, is there a way to ensure that the annotations remain linked to the intended text even if the PDF is exported to a newer version where the text position may have shifted? If so, what is the recommended approach to create annotations that will reliably stay linked to their associated text across different PDF versions and renderings?

No. The annotations have no relation to the text below them. They exist at a different "layer" of the file entirely.

If that text is moved, the annotation can't know that, and won't follow it to its new location.

Thanks @try67 , that's what I was wondering if there is a way to track for easy review. Eg. if word "abc" is on page 1 of the pdf in v1 where the comment is added and in v2 if the word"abc" moves to page 2 of same pdf is there a way to retain that? Looks like there is none.

This can be achieved with a script, but what about if "abc" appears 10 more times? How will it know which one of those to use? Or if the user changed "abc" to "acb"? What should happen with the comment then? etc.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
