Question

Previewing pdf files in Outlook online is messed up

I've been struggling to figure out how to resolve an issue that occurs when previewing a pdf document.  I use Microsoft outlook online (i.e. through a browser not the app). When someone sends me a pdf document, I should be able to double click the attachment and view it within the email. When I do so, it opens, but instead of characters, I see little boxes where there should be letters.  Pictures show up ok, but no letters at all.  If I want to properly view it, I have to download the document, which I don't like having to do if I just want to peek at something.

My default viewer for pdf files is Adobe.  I can't get an answer from Microsoft, so I'm hoping someone here knows how to fix this.  I've tried updating Adobe Reader DC (64 bit) and it does not help.

Hello,

I have the same issue. This is happening to us in our group email, but in my "personal work" email it appears alright. I have attached a photo on how it looks. Any help would be appreciate it since I don't want to download hundreds of PDF's to see the information.

Thank you

What browser are you using?  Perhaps you need to visit the browser's setting for how it handles PDFs.  If you can, switch it away from viewing PDFs in the browser.

My best,

Dave

Thanks for the quick reply Dave - I am using Google Chrome. I've not discovered any settings on Chrome that might assist. This problem is new - I used to have no problem, but I first noticed this about 2-3 months ago, and it's been driving me crazy. It does not happen all the time: I just opened a different pdf with no trouble.
