Printing a PDF manual duplex: how do I stop alternating orientation

I am manually printing a PDF as duplex, first doing single-sided even only, then flipping it over and doing single sided odd only. The pages come out with alternating orientations whether I choose landscape or portrait. I know how to fix this problem when using double-sided printing. How do I fix this problem with single-sided printing?
