Question

Printing will not work with VIPRE Anti-Virus

We are running VIPRE Antivirus for Business. Not Internet Security, there is no firewall etc. All it has is virus scanning and active protection. When the Antivirus is enabled, the two users who are now on Adobe Acrobat 2017 Standard cannot print pdf documents to any network printers. As soon as I disable VIPRE, and open Adobe Acrobat, we can then print to all network printers.

I tried removing pdf's from the active protection and it still wouldn't print, VIPRE says it is a known issue in Adobe DC/2017 even with other antiviruses...

The print dialog doesn't even show up when you try to print, it just does nothing.

Windows 7

Acrobat Standard 2017

I have ESET Endpoint Antivirus on our Windows 7 Machines and printing works fine on all networked printer we have. Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro DC.

I also have 2 Windows 10 machines, one with Panda Antivirus and one with the base Microsoft Defender. I can print fine from both printers.

I also do not see problems on the Known issues | Adobe Acrobat DC, Reader DC pages.

I see some messages about printing problems with Acrobat X, XI etc, but rarely with DC. (example Cannot print documents that are in Acrobat documents - Microsoft Community ).

Now to my proposed work arounds:

  1. Look into the Windows/Antivirus error logging. Do you see a relevant message?
  2. Try printing with Acrobat Reader. Does that work?
  3. Try alternative PDF Readers. A lot of them are free, so there should be no problem to find one.
