Problem updating Acrobat 9 Pro from 9.0 to 9.5.5

After much effort through Chat support, I received an update file enabling Acrobat 9 Pro to update from 9.0 to 9.5.5. However when I open the .dmg file, the Acrobat application is greyed out so I am not able to complete the install. Any help would be appreciated.

I didn't know there was a 9.5.5 combo update but support ought to know better than me. Still, Did you try the first update, 9.1.0?

Their combo update doesn't break down into the individual updates. Here is a screenshot of what happens when I try to install it. I should be able to highlight the Acrobat app to continue with the installation but it is greyed out so I'm stuck.

Also wanted o mention, the  Acrobat tech support specialist through Adobe Chat referred me to this forum for an answer. I am using Mac OS 10.11.5.@

Not surprised chat gave up, support ended years ago. And Acrobat 9 seems unhappy in Mac OS 10.11.

Anyway, Did you install every intervening update? You can't skip any so far as I know.

I didn't want to present a long, drawn out explanation in my initial question. But a bit of the background may be insightful. I installed CS4 Design Premium on El Capitan OS and have been using it, including Acrobat 9 Pro v. 9.5.5 for the last year. Last week, I picked up Photoshop Elements 14 and Premiere 14. They would not install so I contacted Adobe chat. After following their suggestions, I not only couldn't use my new software but I couldn't use my CS4. I realize CS4 including Acrobat 9 Pro is no longer officially supported by Adobe but since their advice on my new applications messed up my old applications, I found someone willing to help (after multiple chat cases). They emailed sent me a link for the Acrobat 9.5.5 combo updates as I couldn't find a reliable download (I'm suspicious of using an unknown ftp site.) Their update file didn't work. I have had 8 cases with Adobe trying to resolve the problem and their latest solution is to contact this forum. So, here i am.
