Problems printing PDF's in Acrobat

I have used acrobat for ever to print pdf's without problems but recently have experienced all sorts of problems.

Documents I have previously printed won't print at all.

Text only documents not printing at all

Text is not printing on pdf's that combine images and text (the images print)

Documents print perfectly in word (so not a printer problem)

Printing 'as an image' does not make any difference.

Have turned grey scale printing both on and off to no effect.

Have tried turning printer features onto default and acrobat to default and almost every other combination of settings you can think of.

HELP!
