Problems with Links Added to Tagged PDFs

I am remediating a document that has internal cross-references that need to be clickable links. Only the text I selected shows within the link tag, but the cross-reference link is active on the words around the link as well (sometimes bleeding into another link, which makes that link not functional).

The link text should end with the word Checklist but it is clickable up to the word can. Appendix E is also supposed to be a separate clickable link (which is shown in the tag tree). But since it got pulled into the previous link, when I click on Appendix E, it goes to the previous link location.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
