Problems with Text Selection in PDF Produced from Word Document with Embedded Picture

I can print a Word document without any embedded pictures to a pdf through Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, without issues, but, if the Word document contains an embedded picture, whether in the main body of the document or in a header or footer, when that document is printed to pdf, the text in the resulting pdf on the page or pages that have the picture cannot be selected in the normal way (from start point horizontally by line to end point), but, rather, text is selected in (useless) vertical column chunks.

What settings, in Word or Adobe Acrobat, are necessary to produce pdf files from Word documents with embedded pictures that can have text selected in the normal fashion?

Did you try using the Acrobat ribbon instead of print to PDF?
