Question

Protected Mode Off Causing Slow Performance

I have a weird issue where when protected mode is turned on, adobe runs perfect but limits some of the files I can open in my company dropbox folder (Says access denied). But when I turn protected mode off, I can open the files, but adobe runs terribly slow and freezes constantly. Does anyone know of a fix where I can have protected mode off and still run smooth?

    Hi cameron_3608,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

We always suggest keeping Protected Mode ON and allowing Acrobat safe access to your Dropbox folder instead of disabling security.

Please try to add Dropbox as a Privileged Location (Recommended)

    • Open Adobe Acrobat

    • Go to Menu > Preferences

    • Select Security (Enhanced)

    • Under Privileged Locations, click Add Folder Path

    • Add your local Dropbox sync folder (for example: C:\Users\<username>\Dropbox\ or your company-specific path)

    • Click OK and restart Acrobat

As mentioned above, the issue occurs with some files, not all. It could be a file-specific issue. Try downloading the file and save locally. See if you can open it then.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
